What should I tell the participant to expect on the OBISSS?

It is important to give the participant an idea of what types of questions are on the OBISSS. It is best for you, as the provider, to have taken the OBISSS first as a demo so you an provide first-hand knowledge. (See how here.)

The best guidance is to tell the participant that they will be initially answering questions about themselves, like ethnicity, age, and education level. The OBISSS will then ask questions about their history with injuries to the head or neck, the age of such an injury, and the number of occurrences of an injury, in addition to questions about non-traumatic brain injuries like tumors, diseases of the brain, or loss of oxygen. If the OBISSS indicates that a possible brain injury has occurred, then there are questions in the next section that ask about problems they are having in different areas like memory, organization, and language.
